Dolphin Don's Music School is a set of ten educational music games teaching reading and ear training on notes, rhythms, key signatures, intervals, and chords. Suitable for all ages from 6 through adult, Dolphin Don works with Windows 95 and above. It requires 32Mb of memory, 12Mb of hard disk space, and a sound card. A music keyboard is not required.
The games are presented in the format of multimedia flash cards. Points are scored by correctly identifying a note, rhythm, key signature, interval, or chord that is shown on the screen or played through the sound card. Throughout the game, Dolphin Don offers instant feedback and encouragement after each answer.
With ten different games in the package and 24 grades in each game, there are a total of 240 levels. While any of the ten games may be played at any time by manually selecting it, Dolphin Don has put together a lesson plan that will take a student through all 240 levels in a logical progression.
Dolphin Don's keeps track of the scores for as many as 30 different players, with support for printing all scores. Individual scores may be viewed by the student, but a password is required to view all players' scores.
Students who play an instrument should let Dolphin Don know. He'll tailor a course of study to their needs. After all, the first notes a flute player learns are different from the first notes a clarinet player learns (not to mention tuba)! Students who do not play an instrument simply choose the default setting.
Each game includes a "Play Mode" (the game) and a "Learn Mode." Learn Mode presents the musical material covered in the corresponding grade of the game. Additionally, there is a context-sensitive help file covering all aspects of game play, and a Music Help file that serves as a written introduction to all of the musical concepts included in the game.
